INTRO SHOW #1
PAUL: Good morning, Newfoundland and peoples of
Canada ! I'm Paul Moth. Today's programme is a panoply of cultural
wonders: a walk through the garden of Moths; the bite of a mascara
snake; the stink of a big cheese; a feeding frenzy on the stock
exchange floor; and the collapse of the Western World. All this and
more, for you, on the Great Eastern, Nfld's Cultural Magazine !
Canadian listeners join us again this week, and you'll be here for two
big months of Nfld's Cultural Magazine. Our regular listeners on the
Icelandic National Broadcasting Service are with us, too. "Godan
Daginn" to you all.
You think it was hectic in Halifax when the G7 industrialized nations
met there ... you should have been after a late-night fish and chips at
Leo's this week with the UI-150 in town ... that's the unindustrialized
nations. All 150 of them. More dressing and gravy, please !
But most of them are gone now, and this is Canada's weekend, eh ?
... the Canada Day Holiday is well under way here in Nfld, time zones
being what they are.
Yes, it was on this date in 1867 that Canada was discovered by the
Hudson's Bay company. Or was it the Bank of Nova Scotia ?
Happy Canada Day, Canadians!
Summer has landed in Nfld with a ... well, it's landed, anyway. The
theoretical blistering heat is nicely tempered by the actual cooling
breezes from icebergs floating off our shores. Whales disport
themselves in search of a baleen basket of caplin. Seabirds scoop
the tops off waves. Ahhh. Nfld, it truly is a power centre. And so is
the Great Eastern a power spot. So keep your radio centred on the
coal-fired power of the Broadcasting Corporation of Nfld.
