GE 1996-7 Season 3 Episode 17: What's That Noise?
Note: this is not a transcript, but a working draft of the script, so there may be differences in the aired version.
PAUL:	Feels great being back on my
side of the studio glass.

The highlight of the week for
many folks, the moment that
makes all other moments worth
the bother, it’s time for the
“What’s That Noise From Nfld!”
contest.

We play the noise of something
going on in our island home,
you try to guess what it is,
and if you’re right, we send
you a souvenir of the BCN or
The Great Eastern, a pocket
protector, or a ruler or a
fridge magnet, something that
serves as a reminder to you to
keep your set tuned to 520 on
the Long Wave.

So, Hollis Duffitt, enough
preamble, time for our
customary sonic boom !

Think you can get the right
button ? Little joke, go
ahead.

SFX:	THAT NOISE

There it is !

Let’s head south to the
mailbag on the floor and see
what it is that you think that
sound might actually be.

And here’s an e-mail ... ah
yes, this brings up an
important point. We do accept
e-mail entries to our contest
even though we only give our
street address at the end of
the contest. I’ll give you
both in a minute.

But first, this e-mail comes
to us from Sooke, British
Colombia, and it’s from Kim
and Norm Collins. They write:

“Hi from Sooke, BC.”

Hi from St. John’s, Nfld, you
two.

“In response to your “What’s
that sound contest” aired on
January 11, 1997, we think the
sound you are looking for is a
boat tied to a dock riding up
on her fenders. Great show.”

And as I said, that’s from
Norm and Kim Collins in Sooke.

Aha ! You see Hollis ? I’m
not the only one. That’s
exactly what I thought the
noise was.

Well, Collinses, thanks for
your note, but the sound is
not a boat rubbing her fenders
against a dock, you and I are
all wrong.

But keep trying ! I will.

Hollis, give us another clue.
