GE 1997-8 Season 4 Episode 21: What's That Noise?
Note: this is not a transcript, but a working draft of the script, so there may be differences in the aired version.
PAUL: Can you hear it ? Do you know it ? Will you
write us ? Hooo - aaaaaa ! What's That Noise from
Newfoundland ? You know, this could be the most important
game show on the long wave.
Hollis Duffett, master of the noise, let it out of the cage one time !

Alright, then, put it back, there's no need to spoil a good thing.
It's very simple here. We play that noise, and if you think
you know what it is, you send us an entry, no purchase necessary,
and if you are right, we'll send you a Great Eastern tee-shirt.
You can see what they look like on our web page.
Down into the mail sack just chock full of entries I go, and this
week's lucky entrant is ... from Whitehorse, in the newly free
Yukon Territories. And it's from Sophia Brown. Sophia writes:
"Dear paul, that noise, as was stated on your show, I believe
to be the sound of the new comorant helicopters flying over Nfld.
Yours in the north, Sophia Brown."
Sophia, nice of you to write, hope all is well with you because ...
unfortunately your answer is wrong.
The competition is still open. I am about to give out our
mailing address, so if you'd like to participate, be so kind as
to get a pencil and paper, and we'll fill that gap with a sound
hint. Hollis, please take that as your cue.

And what a Newfoundland noise that is. Send your guess to

Or you can e-mail us at greateastern@stjohns.cbc.ca
Here's a band that might be out of New Brunswick, but is
definately not out of luck, Sol. They're playing tonight
at Dalhousie University in Halifax, and here's a cut from
there latest cd, "Lucinda," it's called "I Feel."
