GE 1997-8 Season 4 Episode 3: What's That Noise?
Note: this is not a transcript, but a working draft of the script, so there may be differences in the aired version.
PAUL: It's time for the most popular game show in all the
Dominion, What's That Noise From Nfld. !
We play a sound that is recorded somewhere in the island
province, and you guess what it is !
We draw one letter a week from our mail bag, and if the
answer is correct, that person wins a gorgeous Great Eastern
tee-shirt from our souvenir kiosk in the lobby.
But before we pull our first submission from le sac du poste,
let's hear what the noise is all about.
Hollis Duffett, defender of the noise, give it a spin.
SFX: THE NOISE
Yes, yes, yes, there it is, and everybody thinks they recognize it !
Let's dig down amongst the heaps of listener mail and see if we
can give away a BCN tee-shirt.
And here's an entry from ... St. John's, Nfld., hmmm, home of
The Great ... and it's from Regina Codner. And of course it's
a correct answer. Well, considering the problem we've had with
this family in the recent past, I'm going to arbitrarily reject
this entry. Have they no shame ?
Let's get a real entry ... back into the bag we go ... here's one,
it comes from ... Kingston, Ontario. And ... oh, it's a pretty
card from Alex H. Telfer. And Alex writes:
"Dear Paul, That noise from Nfld. was the sound of a snowplow on
Macklin Place scraping the snow and ice, while the local kids play
a game of ... mood hockey" ? Humph, sounds like my kind of ... oh,
ROAD hockey, "while the local kids play a game of road hockey, and
later shout, 'SNOWPLOW!' Sincerely, Alex Harnum Telfer."
Well, Alex, thanks for entering the contest, but your guess is incorrect !
It is not a snowplow, on Macklin Place or any other place, for that matter.
Get your pencils and paper ready, I'll give you our address right
after you hear the noise one more time.
Hollis Duffet, wind 'er up.
SFX: THAT NEW NOISE
That's it !
