GE 1998-9 Season 5 Episode 1: What's That Noise?
Note: this is not a transcript, but a working draft of the script, so there may be differences in the aired version.
PAUL: What in the world is all that racket ?
Yes, it's time once more to play the most popular game
show in the North Atlantic, What's That Noise From Newfoundland.
I say "North Atlantic" because not only have you Canadians
taken us to your hearts, but proof also exists that our
contest 'translates' well. While we were broadcasting from
Reykjavik this past summer we had an amazing response to
Kvath airr (rolling r) thess-eh how-vaa-theh frow Ees-land-eh
kahhpp-lake-urr (rolling r), What's That Noise From Iceland.
And congratulations, by the way, to last week's winner, Margarith
Odinsdotter, of Siglufjordur, up there in the north.
Our game is profound in its simplicity: we play a real noise
recorded somewhere in Newfoundland; you write us with your
guess at what that sound is; we put all the guesses we receive
in an old Royal Mail mailbag and every week pull out one entry.
The person who correctly identifies the sound receives a lovely
souvenir from the BCN kiosk here in the lobby, and then we do
it all over again.
All entries and submissions become the property of the BCN, and
the decision of our judge, engineer Hollis Duffett, is final.
Okay, first show back in the Big Country, an Icelandic winner
last week, we have a clean slate, no old noise to deal with,
let's start the ball rolling with a brand new vibration.
I'll give you the contest address in a moment, but first, Hollis
Duffett, noise knob twirler, twirl your noisy knob.
SFX: THE NOISE
Judge Hollis Duffett informs me that in this particular instance,
not only do you need to identify the sound, but you must also
tell us where the sound occurs.
If you have that information, write us at the What's That Noise
From Newfoundland Contest, 342 Duckworth St., St. John's, A1C 1H5.
We also accept electronic entries via e-mail, and that address is
greateastern@stjohns.cbc.ca
