GE 1998-9 Season 5 Episode 22: Paulitorial
Note: this is not a transcript, but a working draft of the script, so there may be differences in the aired version.

PAUL:	I saw a psyhiatrist this week, and after a brief, eventful
meeting, he recommended a lawyer here in town who deals with
	problems of this nature.

So, while there are some kinds of ... confessions, or revelations,
one would rather not make, especially those about personal ...

SFX:	STUDIO DOOR OPENS, IN COMES ISH

Ish ... ladies and gentlemen, director of radio ... what's going on,
	Ish ?

ISH:	I have to address the country on a matter of great importance,
Paul, give me the microphone.

PAUL:	Oh, dear god, they've landed, haven't they.

ISH:	What ?

PAUL:	They've come back to finish it off ...

ISH:	Loyal listeners far and wide, it gives me a huge amount of pleasure
to announce that you are listening to the three thousandth consecutive
broadcast of The Great Eastern.

PAUL:	Three thousand ? Why wasn't I told of this ?

ISH:	It's a surprize for you, Paul.

PAUL:	I'm certainly ... plussed.

ISH:	Yes, from it's earliest beginnings on a newly formed Broadcasting
Corporation of Newfoundland in 1935, through several wars, many insurrections
and much political turmoil, The Great Eastern has sailed, her motor one of
cultural divergence, her sails bellied by the winds of change, her screws
propulsing her through always active waters.

PAUL:	How many of the shows have I hosted ?

ISH:	Hmmm ? What ? About 280 or thereabouts, I believe.

PAUL:	So I must have had my 250th show in the summer sometime.

ISH:	That's right.

PAUL:	Excuse me for thinking it might have been a significant date, but
why wasn't there some sort of ... acknowledgment of that ?

ISH:	We didn't want to take the lustre off the larger celebration.

PAUL:	I see ...

ISH:	Cheer up, Paul, boy. This is, by coincidence ...

PAUL:	There are no coincidences, Ish.

ISH:	Something here for you, by coincidence, the 100th Great Eastern
on the CBC, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and you've been
	a big part of that.

PAUL:	A hundred shows to Canada !

ISH:	Yes. We've received a nice letter, too, a commendation from
Alex Frame, my opposite number, the Vice-President in charge of
	English Radio at the CBC.

PAUL:	Let me see that (SCANS NOTE) ... doesn't mention me ... and
	still nothing about next year.

ISH:	And enclosed, a very nice personal touch, a one hundred dollar -
get that ? - a one hundred dollar gift certificate for the CBC
Boutique in the Toronto Telecasting Tower.

PAUL:	I'll be able to get all those café tapes I wanted, the Vinyl
one, the dead dog one ...

ISH:	Yeah, yeah, whatever. So, Rita, roll in that cake, now.

ALL:	Happy Anniversary, Paul, happy anniversary, to the Great Eastern.
Happy one hundred ! Happy three thousand.
