GE 1998-9 Season 5 Episode 8: What's That Noise?
Note: this is not a transcript, but a working draft of the script, so there may be differences in the aired version.
PAUL: "Good, good, good, good vibrations ..." yes, it's time to
get the vibe from out here on the edge, time for the greatest
game show I've ever heard, time to play ... What's That Noise
From Newfoundland !
What would a contest be without a prize ? Guess the sound and
you could win a gorgeous BCN tee-shirt.
We can't just give it away, you must earn it, and you earn it by
correctly identifying this noise ... Hollis Duffett, hit that
long and lingering note and let it float.
SFX: THE NOISE
Confused ? Don't worry, we'll give you another hint before I give
you the contest address at the end of the contest.
Into the bag o' mail I descend, to pull out this, an e-mail entry from
... Karen Goldblatt of Downsview, Ontario. It reads - "To: Ismael
Lundrigan, Hello Ismael: (Going over my head, I see.) My husband and
I were in Newfoundland this past summer. We were tuned into your show
last week and loved it. (Da bomb !) We both think that Newfoundland
is Canada's BEST KEPT SECRET. (Sssh, Karen, not too loud.) We will
definitely be back! We think we can identify the sound. We think it
is iceberg ice melting, and the sound is trapped air escaping. It is
the sound you hear when you hold iceberg ice up against your ear.
Thank you. Karen Goldblatt."
Hollis ?
SFX: THE WINNER'S THEME
Yes, Karen Goldblatt of Ontario, that is indeed the sound of ten-million
year old ice melting in a tumbler of rum ! Congratulations, how did you
ever figure that one out ? Your tee shirt is being wrapped figuratively
as I speak.
When a sound on our show is correctly identified, we go to the immense stock
of amazing noises that emanate only from Newfoundland. Here's our new sonic
stumper.
Hollis Duffett, guardian of things noisome, let's hear it.
