Gerry’s draftsmanship reached new levels when, inspired by the French comic book Métal Hurlant, he created the two self-published issues of Zeitgeist in collaboration with his good friend Wallace Ryan. Most of Gerry’s comics feature his existential hero Ira Zappa, whose adventures are a blend of space fantasy and his trademark sense of absurdity. Aside from some output created to entertain his two children, Gerry never returned to graphic storytelling in a significant way, although he had expressed interest in doing so after his planned retirement.
