From Strindberg to Uncle Jack

Gunnar Olafmundunsson

Gunnar Olafmundunsson

BORN IN UPPSALA in 1954 Gunnar Olafmundunsson is known to BCN listeners as the cunning charmer of Gander Bay, Uncle Jack Fitzpatrick, lead performer in the children’s series Uncle Jack’s Shack. In his native Sweden he is known as the greatest modern interpreter of Strindberg.

A summer romance with a Newfoundland Au Pair in Iceland resulted in marriage and relocation to St. John’s in 1989. Though the union has sadly ended Gunnar continues to spend his falls and winters in Newfoundland. He returns to Sweden every summer as director of the Ostersud Festival of the Dramatic Arts.
